Run for Board Positions!

As we approach the Organizational Meeting, we are looking for candidates to run for our club’s Board of Directors.  These elections will take place at the Organizational Meeting on October 15.

President, President-Elect, and Immediate Past President

The President is the Chief Executive Officer of the Kiwanis Club.  He/she chairs all meetings of the Kiwanis Club and the Board of Directors and oversees all operations of the club, including service, fundraising, membership growth, programming, and so on.

This year, we will elect a President who will begin his/her term immediately.  Typically, a President must first be elected to serve as President-Elect.  The President-Elect functionally serves as the Vice President, filling in for the President when he/she is absent.  The President-Elect also spends the year preparing for his/her term in office.  The 2015-2016 President-Elect, after being duly elected, will serve as the 2016-2017 President.

After completing his/her term, the President serves for a year as Immediate Past President on the Board to provide guidance to the President and the Board.  Because our club is new this year, there will be no Immediate Past President on the 2015-2016 Board.

Secretary

The Club Secretary is tasked with maintaining the club’s records, recording minutes of all meetings of the Kiwanis Club and the Board of Directors, reporting activities to Kiwanis International, updating member information with Kiwanis International, and completing paperwork with the IRS and State of Massachusetts.  The Secretary serves a one-year term, and is eligible to be reelected.

Treasurer

The Club Treasurer is tasked with maintaining the club’s finances.  This includes maintaining the club’s bank accounts, depositing funds and writing checks for the club, keeping an accurate accounting of all revenues and expenses, and reporting to the Board of Directors on the club’s budget.  The club’s finances are overseen by the Club’s standing Financial Review Committee.

Directors

The Club will have four (4) Directors who serve alternating two year terms.  Directors are voting members of the Board and help to govern the Club.  Directors may fulfill tasks as assigned by the Board, or simultaneously serve as a Committee Chair.

This year, we will elect two Directors to serve one year (2015-2016) and two Directors to serve two years (2016-2017).  Thereafter, we will elect two Directors per year to serve a two-year term.

Committee Chairs

The Club will have four standing committees: Programs, Service & Fundraising, Membership, and Financial Review.  The Chairs of these committees will be appointed by the President.  Committee Chairs oversee specific, important aspects of the Kiwanis Club.  They are not voting members of the Board of Directors, but do report to the Board on their Committee’s function area.
